I'm peeking out from a very whirlwindy sort of month to mention that I got to see He-Mouse, the ocean, Country Mouse, and Tiny Niece and Tiny Nephew all in the same weekend, which was just totally bitchin.

and

I got to meet wise bloglandia friend LPC in person, and she gave me yummy iced tea and a good dose of excellent career advice. I've been thinking about said advice a lot and will probably blog about it more over the next few weeks, but here are the big highlights: first, in considering a career path, figure out the thing you need, exactly. Because you may be able to get it in a different way than you suppose. And second, following one's heart is neither anti-feminist nor selling out. To summarize LPC, she didn't work all those years with all those bozo chauvinist men so that women my age would feel like we MUST pursue a high-power career, even if that career is something we happen to be pretty good at.

Maybe it's possible to be pretty good at something but choose to focus on something else.

Maybe the universe is wide enough for all of it.

xoxox. Such a wonderful little morning it was. To all you smart internet girls, hugs and kisses. I love to know the voices behind the "voice."

Definitely. It was seriously traumatic for me when I realized that I wasn't going to be a world changing research scientist, not because I couldn't but because my heart wasn't in it. Career might not ever be the thing that I'm most passionate about, and I think I'm starting to be okay with that.
